Union public service commission held a special meeting on 15th April to contemplate the situation and discover appropriate decisions for upcoming exams and interviews. The UPSC was set to hold UPSC 2020 prelims, engineering mains exams, geologists service (main) exams with 2019 exams pending discussions. But after contemplating the current situation of crisis and nationwide lockdown, the board decided to review the case from time to time to avoid any mass movements of students now. The commission said that new dates for UPSC mains exams including other scheduled exams would be determined after the second phase of lockdown, which will end on 3rd May 2020. The commission mentioned in its notification on its website that all the interviews, personality tests, scheduled exams including mains and prelims are to be reviewed and decisions on such exams which require movement of students and authorities nationwide are to be taken after 3rd of may.
Many exams have been postponed till further intimation of the letter notified by commission cites. The decision on Exams like the national defence academy will be posted on 10th June 2020. Earlier, the Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Sashi Tharoor asked the officials and ministers to take a clear stand and inform the nation about the exam dates and further plannings. The last few lines of notification by the commission cites that in light of the current coronavirus pandemic, our country is confronting economic losses to play a little contribution in that the commission has decided to forgo their 30% of the salary for next one year.
