As the number of cases in India Is on a rapid surge, and the death toll has reached 270. The country of 1.3 billion people is under 21- day lockdown, but no sign of improvements in the situation is observed. Though the medical authorities have claimed that there is no community transmission as of now in India, the numbers are recording at rapid speed. On Friday, April 11, the country has registered 1000 new cases, which are the highest so far. Contemplating the situation to take further action, prime minister Narendra Modi chaired a video conferencing meeting with state chief ministers. The country is considering extending the 21-day nation-wide world’s most extensive lockdown, which is ending on April 14. Though the central government is still to take decisions on lockdown, few states have already decided to extend lockdown in their provinces.
Maharashtra coronavirus cases and lockdown
Maharashtra government on Saturday announced to prolong the Covid-19 lockdown till April 30 with chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray mentioned that the state might impose further lockdown even after April 30 if people do not comply with the prescribed regulations and strictly obey lockdown measures. Strict action to be taken against it. Cm further said that it seems that the situation is under control, but one needs to be cautious.
Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal also extended lockdown.
Maharashtra becomes the third province to extend the lockdown length after Odisha and Punjab. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee also decided to extend lockdown on Saturday. Maharashtra has recorded the most number of cases in India as the state’s tally has crossed 2000 marks, the city of Mumbai is worst affected.
The earlier chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh requested the prime minister to extend the lockdown further, which is no doubt imperative as of now to impose. As far as medical and situation are considered, India still lacks PPES, ventilators, and sufficient beds to tackle a massive outbreak of corona pandemic. The country is making all its possible effort to stop community transmission, and whether it will succeed or not, this is only a wait and watch the game. Many parts in the top cities of India are sealed as the places were recognized as the hotspot of the virus spread.
